What is the user interface (UI) Design? Definition and types: Best practices for designing the interface

What is UI?

Anything a user may interact with to use digital products and/or services, including from screens, touch screens, keyboards, and sounds.

 What is UI Design?

User interface designs it is the graphical layout interface of the application that consists of the buttons users click on, the text they read, the sliders, images, or others. It is the process to built interfaces in the software or the computerized devices, that focusing on the looks and style. To create a UI, designers aim to create interfaces that users find easy to use and create user engagement. It is also the way through which the users interact with the application or web.

Types of the user interface (UI):

There are several different types of the user interface including:

  • Graphical user interfaces (GUIs):

The graphical user interface is the type of user interface that allows interaction with apps or webs and visual indicators. It displays objects that information and represents actions that can be taken by the user.

  • Voice user interfaces (VUIs):

It allows the user to interact with the system through the voice and the speech commands, such as Google Assistant, and Alexa which are the examples of VUI.

  • Character User Interface /Command-line User Interface (CUI):

Character user interface or command-line user interface allows interact with computer programs, works by allowing the user to (clients) to issue commands as one or more lines of the text “referred to as command lines” to a program, e.g.MS-DOS and Window Command Prompt.

  • Natural language user interface (LUI or NLUI):

Natural language user interface (LUI OR NLUI) is the just simple user interface; it provides natural, human-like interaction with any application that makes work effective. This interface allows the users to speak or type in the normal language in order to interact with the computer.

  • Menu-driven interface:

The menu-driven interface is the simple menu that interacts with you with a computer or device by working your way through a series of screens or menu. It can be also verbal rather than visual; it allows you to make a choice about what to do next. A good design interface is also simple to use.

  • Question and answer user interface:

In the question and answer interface, the computer displayed a question to the user on the display and to interact the user enters an answer and the computer then acts on that input information in a programmed manner.  This type of interface is called “dialog box” which is shown below.

Best practices for designing the interface:

  • Keep the interface simple:

Avoid unnecessary elements and keep it simple, it creates an impact on users and helps them to easily use.

  • Purposeful page layout:

Make page layout most be purposeful, consider the spatial relationship between the items on the page and the structure page based on importance. Purpose to make page layout memorable and make the user’s engagement and increases visitors.
